1. About Kilimo Trust

Kilimo Trust (KT) is an independent Regional agricultural development organization - working on agriculture for development across the EAC Region. It is registered in the Republic of Uganda, and it implements projects across all EAC Partner States. The core business of Kilimo Trust is to support the transformation of food and nutrition security in the EAC Region away from high-risk subsistence farming into lower-risk trade-based systems.

Kilimo Trust, in partnership with TradeMark Africa, is co-implementing the five-year WYEEFIMA program - Women and Youth Economic Empowerment in Fisheries through Inclusive Market Access, with Lattice Aquaculture, and MicroSave Consulting. The programme is funded by the Mastercard Foundation. KT leads the fish cross-border trade and distribution component and has mobilized youth aged 18–35 for employment opportunities, both as wage earners and entrepreneurs (self-employed), within and beyond the fish/seaweed value chains.

2. The Assignment /Scope of Work

Kilimo Trust invites applications from fisheries associations, fisheries training organizations and institutions, as well as individual fisheries trainers and consultants to provide hands-on, experiential training in hygienic fish handling, value addition, storage, and packaging for WYEEFIMA participants. The training will focus on key fish value chain thematic areas, with the objective of strengthening participants’ competencies in post-harvest practices and value addition in order to improve fish quality and marketability.

  1. Boat building and engine maintenance
  2. Cold chain systems and small-scale ice making
  3. Best pre- and post-harvest fish handling, processing and value addition (specifically smoked, salted, sun-dried and fresh products).
  4. Food safety and quality assurance.
  5. Fisheries business management and growth.

Note:

  • Associations, institutions and organizations may apply as an entity and submit applications on behalf of their trainers. All proposed trainers must submit their individual CVs, credentials, and a list of training equipment they own or can hire, including quotations for the equipment to be used during the training.
  • Applicants are required to clearly indicate the specific fish value chain thematic areas above, in which they have the strongest capacity and experience to deliver training.
  • Applicants must clearly indicate their preferred location(s) or region of operation within Uganda as indicated I the scope of work.

3. Qualifications & Eligibility

a) At least three (3) years of hands-on experience in hygienic fish handling, value addition, and fish trade at community level. Technical Proposal (including your professional fee, and incase you have equipment that can be hired)

b) Ability to train in English and/or relevant local languages (Luganda, Kiswahili, Luo, etc.).

c) Relevant certification or formal training (DIT or recognized vocational institution is an added advantage).

d) Access to or ownership of suitable training facilities and equipment, with detailed equipment lists and hire quotations is an add advantage

4. Application Procedure

  2. CV(s) of proposed trainer(s)
  3. Evidence of similar assignments conducted
  4. List of available training equipment with hire quotations for those who have.
