Our mission is to make agribusiness a transformative tool for wealth creation, focusing on enhancing agricultural productivity, increasing farmer incomes, and promoting food and nutrition security.
Strategic Objectives (2018-2023)
Kilimo Trust’s strategic objectives for 2018-2023 focused on transforming agricultural value chains in East Africa by increasing access to sustainable, profitable, and structured input and output markets, enhancing the productivity, quality, and value of agricultural produce, and strengthening resilience to market shocks.
The strategy emphasized empowering women and youth, promoting climate-smart agriculture, improving post-harvest handling, and fostering strong partnerships with national, regional, and international organizations to build sustainable and competitive agricultural value chains. These efforts aimed to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers and other value chain actors, contributing to food and nutrition security and equitable wealth creation.
Strategic Focus (2023-2028)
Our strategic plan for 2023-2028 emphasizes sustainable livelihoods and better communities.
We aim to address gaps and obstacles within agricultural value chains and markets, leveraging our deep subject-matter expertise and partnerships.
Our core business area is to structure national and regional trade in agricultural products, aiming to raise at least USD 10 million annually to drive our initiatives.
Capability and Impact
Kilimo Trust has a proven track record of enhancing agricultural value chains across East Africa. Since 2005, we have managed grants and implemented projects that improve agricultural productivity, market access, and value addition. We have sold over 664,254 metric tons of food staples through structured trade, leveraged over USD 63 million in investments, and benefited over 548,322 smallholder farmers and SMEs. We have created over 3,177 full-time jobs and nurtured numerous high-potential SMEs. Our operations span multiple countries, focusing on various value chains such as rice, maize, beans, and horticulture.
From 2018 to 2023, Kilimo Trust reached over 521,470 farmers and other actors, supported 533 SMEs, created 3,436 jobs, and traded commodities worth USD 192 million. For the next five years, we aim to reach 1.4 million farmers, support 1,500 SMEs, create 12,100 jobs, and trade commodities worth USD 817 million. Kilimo Trust remains committed to transforming lives through agribusiness, promoting sustainable agricultural practices, enhancing food security, and improving livelihoods in the region.
