Dr. Birungi Korutaro, CEO of Kilimo Trust, has been awarded CEO of the Year – Eastern Africa at
the prestigious Farmers Choice Awards 2026, a Pan-African platform that recognises excellence
in agribusiness leadership.

This milestone reflects the trust of the farmers we work alongside and the unwavering dedication
of our team. We remain committed to scaling meaningful innovations that empower farmers,
drive productivity, and shape a more resilient and sustainable African food system,” said Dr. Korutaro.

This award reflects Kilimo Trust’s commitment to advancing inclusive agricultural transformation,
strengthening value chains, and supporting the interests of thousands of smallholder farmers and
agribusinesses across the region.
Under her leadership, Kilimo Trust has expanded its market-led solutions to improve productivity,
promote regional trade, and enhance livelihoods across Eastern Africa. For over 20 years, the
organisation has played a key role in delivering inclusive and sustainable agricultural
development programmes in the region.
The Farmers Choice Awards 2026 took place from 22–24 April at the Mulungushi International
Conference Centre in Lusaka, Zambia, as part of the FCA Africa Expo and Awards.
