AT Uganda Fertilizer Promotion and Distribution Report Final

The "Fertilizer Distribution Development and Promotion" project, implemented by AT Uganda Ltd. in partnership with the Uganda National Agro-input Dealers Association (UNADA) and supported by Kilimo Trust, aimed to enhance agricultural productivity among smallholder farmers in Uganda. Running from April 2007 to March 2010, the project focused on increasing the adoption of productivity-enhancing technologies through a dual strategy of stimulating demand and improving input availability.

Key interventions included farmer training, participatory demonstrations, media campaigns, and establishing a fertilizer distribution mechanism. The project mobilized 365 farmer groups, established over 400 demonstration plots, and reached over 31,000 farmers, significantly boosting fertilizer use and crop yields.

Highlights of the project:

  • Enhanced smallholder farmers' capacity to use fertilizers efficiently.
  • Increased demand for fertilizers and complementary inputs.
  • Strengthened local private sector capacity to supply appropriate inputs.
  • Improved public-private partnerships to scale up access to fertilizers and other technologies.

The report details the project's impact on agricultural productivity, income levels, and food security, emphasizing the importance of effective extension services and timely input availability.
