Dr. Birungi Korutaro, CEO of Kilimo Trust, has been awarded CEO of the Year – Eastern Africa at
the prestigious Farmers Choice Awards 2026, a Pan-African platform that recognises excellence
in agribusiness leadership., The prestigious award was presented last night at Farmers Choice Awards, Summit & Expo Africa (FCA Africa) a a leading continental platform that honours excellence in agribusiness leadership while promoting trade, innovation, and collaboration across Africa’s agricultural value chain.
Speaking after receiving the award in Lasaka, Zambia Dr.Korutaro said the award reflects Kilimo Trust’s commitment to advancing inclusive agricultural transformation, strengthening value chains, and supporting the interests of thousands of smallholder farmers and agribusinesses across the region.

Dr. Korutaro joined Kilimo Trust in 2013 and rose to the position of CEO in 2020. Since then, she has played a pivotal role in strengthening agricultural markets, empowering smallholder farmers, and driving sustainable, inclusive value chains across East Africa. Her leadership continues to inspire innovation, growth, and resilience in the agricultural sector, helping farmers and communities thrive.
Under her leadership, Kilimo Trust has expanded its market-led solutions to improve productivity, promote regional trade, and enhance livelihoods across Eastern Africa. For over 20 years, the organisation has played a key role in delivering inclusive and sustainable agricultural development programmes in the region.
