Our CEO, Dr. Birungi Korutaro, has been nominated for CEO of the Year – Eastern Africa at the prestigious Farmers Choice Awards 2026. This recognition celebrates her remarkable leadership, vision, and dedication to advancing agriculture and agribusiness across the region.
Dr. Korutaro joined Kilimo Trust in 2013 and rose to the position of CEO in 2020. Since then, she has played a pivotal role in strengthening agricultural markets, empowering smallholder farmers, and driving sustainable, inclusive value chains across East Africa. Her leadership continues to inspire innovation, growth, and resilience in the agricultural sector, helping farmers and communities thrive.

The Farmers Choice Awards, Summit & Expo Africa (FCA Africa) is a leading continental platform that honours excellence in agribusiness leadership while promoting trade, innovation, and collaboration across Africa’s agricultural value chain. The awards ceremony will be held at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka, Zambia, on 24 April 2026, following the Expo and Summit from 22–24 April 2026
Kilimo Trust was founded in 2005 as a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting smallholder farmers, agribusinesses, and agricultural value chains in East Africa. Over the years, the organisation has grown to become a leading institution in promoting market-led agriculture, financial inclusion, and sustainable farming practices. In 2025, Kilimo Trust celebrated its 20th anniversary, marking two decades of impact, innovation, and commitment to transforming agriculture across the region.
