Kilimo Trust CEO Dr. Birungi Korutaro receiving the prestigious Award
Kilimo Trust has been named the overall winner of the Agriculture NGO Award at the 3rd Annual Agricultural Awards 2025, held last week in Kampala under the theme “Celebrating Excellence and Innovation in Agriculture.” This prestigious recognition highlights Kilimo Trust’s outstanding contributions to transforming food systems across East Africa through inclusive, evidence-based agricultural solutions.
With a legacy spanning over two decades, Kilimo Trust has positively impacted more than 700,000 farming households across the region. Through its value chain-based approach, the organization has played a critical role in promoting sustainable income generation, food security, and employment opportunities.
Accepting the award, Dr. Birungi Korutaro, CEO of Kilimo Trust, expressed heartfelt gratitude:
“We are truly honored by this recognition, which is a testament to the hard work of our dedicated team, our strategic partners, and the resilient smallholder farmers who remain at the heart of Africa’s agricultural transformation. This award inspires us to keep advancing inclusive and sustainable food systems that drive economic empowerment, improve nutrition, and create meaningful jobs within our communities.”
Earlier this year, Kilimo Trust was also recognized at the Rwanda Women in Business Awards for its trailblazing initiatives to empower youth with hearing impairments through customized agribusiness programs. The organization maintains a strong focus on equity and inclusion, ensuring that women, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups are given the tools, training, and opportunities needed to thrive in agriculture.
Through impactful partnerships and grassroots innovation, Kilimo Trust continues to lead the charge in building resilient, inclusive, and sustainable agricultural systems across East Africa.
As Dr. Korutaro emphasized:
“Our mission is clear: to empower communities through innovative agribusiness that drives prosperity, resilience, and inclusivity—transforming lives and securing the future of agriculture in Africa.”
