Wetlands in Eastern Uganda are rapidly declining due to agriculture expansion, industrial development, settlements, and sand or clay mining. This degradation has contributed to lower rice yields, reduced soil health, and prolonged droughts, threatening the livelihoods of smallholder farmers.
Kilimo Trust, through the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Rice Initiative for Climate-Smart Agriculture – Phase Two (R4iCSA-II), organized physical community sensitization meetings across five sub-counties in Tororo District. These sessions strengthened the knowledge and capacity of rice farming communities on sustainable wetlands management using Sustainable Rice Production Practices (SRPs).
These efforts are part of the broader R4iCSA-II project, which aims to promote SRPs while conserving critical wetlands, improving rice productivity, and enhancing environmental sustainability in Tororo, Butaleja, and Kween districts.
