Kilimo Trust, through the R4iCSA II project, is working to enhance the adoption of Sustainable Rice Production Practices (SRPs) among smallholder farmers in the districts of Butaleja, Tororo, and Kween.
As part of this initiative, a stakeholder sensitization meeting was organized at the Doho Irrigation Scheme where Water Users Associations (WUAs), scheme-level actors, sub-county, and district leaders were engaged to raise awareness on the benefits of implementing cropping calendars and promoting synchronized rice production.
The key objective of the engagement was to strengthen the governance of Water Users Committees (WUCs) and advocate for the integration of cropping calendars as a tool to improve irrigation efficiency, coordination, and productivity within the scheme.
The key outcomes from the workshop included;
· District and sub-county leadership committed to mobilizing farmers and supporting WUCs to implement cropping calendars and synchronized production.
· Doho Irrigation Scheme Farmers Cooperative Society Limited (DIFACOS) leadership pledged to include the calendar sensitization into their regular engagement meetings with farmers.
· JICA Eco-PRiDe project team pledged collaboration with Kilimo Trust-R4iCSA project to support in promoting cropping calendar and synchronized rice production in Doho 1 scheme.
