Project Description:

Kayonza Irrigation and Integrated Watershed Management Project -Phase II (KIIWP-2) is an IFAD-funded initiative implemented in Kayonza District, Eastern Rwanda, with the objective of improving agricultural productivity, climate resilience, and rural livelihoods through sustainable irrigation and watershed management.

The project focuses on the development and rehabilitation of irrigation infrastructure, integrated watershed protection, and the promotion of climate-smart agricultural practices to enhance food security and increase farmers’ incomes.

Under the KIIWP-2 Project, Kilimo Trust is responsible for supporting youth employment and entrepreneurship opportunities along key agricultural value chains. This includes promoting youth engagement in value addition (agro-processing), the operation and maintenance of irrigation services, and the operation and maintenance of farm machinery.

Kilimo Trust delivers this support through targeted youth capacity building, and business development, thereby contributing to inclusive economic growth, job creation, and sustainable rural development within the project area.
