Project Title: Power For Food Partnership
Project Period: 2025-2029
Client/Funder: IKEA Foundation through SNV
Country and Area of Implementation: Rwanda (6 rural Districts)
Project Description:
The Power for Food Partnership (P4FP) is an initiative funded by the IKEA Foundation through SNV where regenerative agriculture (RA) is powered by productive use of renewable energy (PURE). The project is five (5) years from January 01st 2025 to December 31st, 2029, and is being implemented by various partners to reshape agri-food and energy systems and ensure better livelihoods for the targeted communities. Drawing on long-standing collaboration and country-level work in Rwanda that has strengthened farming livelihoods and broadened access to renewable energy, the partnership aims to shift from isolated successes to coordinated, scalable impact on use of RA inputs and PURE solutions. By harmonizing different initiatives, Power for Food partnership seeks to address systemic challenges, drive innovation, and empower communities to pursue sustainable and climate-resilient development.
P4FP also aims to reduce pressure on natural resources, enhance socio-economic outcomes, and advance inclusive, sustainable development, stronger integration between use of RA inputs and PURE solutions which is urgently needed. That’s the reason SNV with different development partners are implementing the Power for Food Partnership to bridge the gap between regenerative agriculture (RA) and the productive use of renewable energy (PURE).
Role of KT:
In October 2025, Kilimo Trust Rwanda signed agreement with SNV to implement the P4FP in six districts of Rwanda including Nyagatare, Rwamagana, Kayonza and Bugesera in Eastern Province as well as Rutsiro and Rubavu districts in western province. The P4FP is implemented by five different partners namely, EPD, HC4D, RCCDN, Kilimo Trust Rwanda and PDN. It is structured around three interlinked strategic pathways; Learn, Link and leverage whereby each partner focuses on pathways related to the area of implementation expertise. Under P4FP, Kilimo Trust Rwanda is focusing on pathway link to ensure the coordination for sustainable agri-food chains transformation by using RA inputs and PURE solutions.
