Kilimo Trust (KT) is an independent Regional agricultural development organization - working on agriculture for development across the EAC Region. It is registered in the Republic of Uganda, and it implements projects across all EAC Partner States. The core business of KT is to support the transformation of food and nutrition security in the EAC Region away from high-risk subsistence farming into lower risk trade-based systems.

Kilimo Trust is implementing a Rice Production and Sustainability Program dubbed Reduce Reuse Recycle Rice Initiative for Climate Smart Agriculture dubbed R4iCSA II, an initiative being funded by the IKEA Foundation and implemented in both Kenya and Uganda. In Uganda, the project has presence in Tororo, Butaleja and Kween districts while in Kenya, it is in the Counties of Kirinyaga (Mwea) and Kisumu (Ahero).

The Call

The main goal of the assignment is to support the R4iCSA II Program to supply and install the appropriate types of biogas production and utility systems to selected dairy farmers who are using rice straw silage and/or hay in the feeding of livestock. This is to promote the use of rice by-products (straws) as livestock feeds and at the same time foster the utility of clean energy from the same, with the resultant bioslurry being applied as to the farms as manure under regenerative agriculture, hence promoting a circular economy.
