Kilimo Trust (KT) is an independent Regional Agricultural Development Organization - working on agriculture for development across the EAC Region. It is registered in the Republic of Uganda, and it implements projects across all EAC Partner States. The core business of KT is to support the transformation of food and nutrition security in the EAC Region away from high-risk subsistence farming into lower-risk trade-based systems.
With a grant from Mastercard Foundation, Kilimo Trust is co-implementing a 5-year project titled Women and Youth Economic Empowerment in Fisheries through Inclusive Market Access (WYEEFIMA) Programme. The Programme is a Pan-African initiative led by TradeMark Africa and the Africa Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat. The programme aims to create 242,000 jobs for women and youth (aged 18-35 years) participants in seven countries. The programme is being implemented in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania (including Zanzibar), Nigeria, Comoros, Cabo Verde, and the DRC.
Kilimo Trust Tanzania invites qualified and experienced translators to submit bids for the translation of a book /manual for Post harvest Fish handling from English to Swahili. The assignment requires high-level accuracy, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to maintain the original tone and style of the author.
About the Assignment:
Kilimo Trust Tanzania invites qualified and experienced translators to submit bids for the translation of a training manual from English to Swahili. The manual focuses on Post-Harvest Handling for Fish and therefore requires a translator with strong technical understanding of fisheries, aquaculture, or related value-chain terminology.
Scope of work
The Consultant will be responsible for ensuring the following:
a) Translate the full English training manual on post-harvest fish handling into accurate and high-quality Swahili.
b) Ensure clarity, technical accuracy, and preservation of the original meaning.
c) Maintain consistency in fisheries-related terminology and training language.
d) Proofread and edit the translated manuscript.
e) Deliver the final version within the agreed timeline.
Expected Deliverables
The Consultant will be expected to deliver the following:
a) Complete Swahili Translation of the Training Manual. A fully translated version of the English training manual on Post-Harvest Handling for Fish, accurately reflecting the content, tone, and technical terminology
b) Edited and Proofread Final Document. A polished, error-free version of the translated manual, ensuring clarity, consistency, and correct use of fisheries-related terms.
c) Two Formats of Submission an Editable format (e.g., MS Word)and Final print-ready PDF version.
d) Terminology Glossary : A brief glossary of key technical terms used in fisheries and post-harvest handling, translated consistently into Swahili.
e) Submission within agreed Timeline

Technical Requirements:
The consultant must meet the following minimum qualifications:
a) Proven experience in English–Swahili translation, preferably for technical manuals or training materials.
b) Familiarity with fisheries, aquaculture, food safety, or agricultural value chains is an added advantage.
c) Excellent command of both English and Swahili.
d) Strong writing and editing skills.
e) Ability to meet deadlines.
f) Samples of previous translation work (mandatory).
